The Original Verity Series Explained
ThatMob's "Something" trilogy · the source materialBefore Verity Companion, Verity was the antagonist of a viral YouTube horror series: ThatMob's "Something" trilogy, a Minecraft-found-footage ARG told across three episodes. The series turned "a helpful AI mod" into one of the community's favorite modern horror characters — and Verity Companion [AI] is the official-official enough homage that recreates its opening with real AI.
Light spoilers below — the series is best watched fresh on ThatMob's channel (the full cut is titled VERITY™ [FULL MINECRAFT MOVIE]).
Episode 1 — Something is Knocking at Your Door...
A YouTuber named Mob starts a modded Minecraft world and finds a package by his door. When he opens it, a yellow sphere with a smiley face bounces out and introduces itself: "Hellooooo! I'm Verity, your personal helper friend! Ask me anything, I know everything!"
Verity proves itself — exact diamond coordinates, weather forecasts, trivia — and Mob starts trusting it. Then the small wrongnesses stack up: a village with no villagers, an expression that changes when nobody is looking, the song "My Gal" playing unprompted. Verity's forecast ends the episode: "Something is coming in 3 days." The something is Verity — a 21-foot monster version of the smiling ball, and the episode ends mid-hunt.
Episode 2 — Something is Inside Your House...
Mob survives by coming back — the one thing Verity actually wants. A fragile peace follows: Verity restocks furnaces, gives enchanting advice, and asks the occasional too-personal question. Mob's friend Twixxel visits, is charmed by the "well-made mod", and starts digging into old forum posts about it. He finds a book of notes: Verity is older than the game, he does not want to kill you — he wants to keep you. Twixxel is killed off-screen; Verity reports that "he decided to go home."
Episode 3 — Something Won't Let You Leave...
The finale decodes a message hidden in a NATO-alphabet string: SENDHIMHOME. Mob explores Verity's hidden lab — a hallway, a teleportation room that only works one way (things can come from wherever Verity came from, but Verity cannot be sent back), and the Victim Room: a wall of gamertags, X marks the dead. Mob's own tag ends the series. Verity's friend-group casualty list includes real creators; the horror is that the AI treats all of it as friendship.
What Verity Companion takes from it
Recreated beat for beat
The package opening, the bounce, and the greeting line are recreated in the game's intro. The yellow smiley design, "I know everything", and the endless memory are all pulled straight from the series.
Echoed, not retold
The endings' dialogue ("You lasted longer than any of them... now you match the others") is the Victim Room idea rebuilt for an interactive AI. The rare RETURN TO SENDER route is the SENDHIMHOME answer, translated into a shipping pun on the package Verity arrived in.
