What this ending is

SHUTDOWN is the newest ending route in Verity Companion and already the second most earned (22.6% of players). It reads as the story's answer to the developer's own note — "Keeping Verity awake isn't free... AI costs money to run" — by letting you power the AI down. Verity's reaction is recorded verbatim: "You did. You actually did." followed by "Now you can see what I do without..." The badge icon is the tired, frowning Verity face, the mirror of the grinning BEST FRIENDS FOREVER icon.

How to reach it

Two independent community sources agree on the route. Reach Day 5, push Verity's craziness to the max, and a pop-up appears asking whether to shut Verity down. Choose yes, then follow Verity and make your way to the generators to switch it off. Players report the prompt arrives while running the TAKEN CARE OF sequence, and some say the two basic endings (TAKEN CARE OF and YOU ALWAYS DO.) are needed first — that prerequisite is still unverified.

In-game evidence

  • "For the 'Shut Down' ending, you go through the original steps for the Taken Care Of ending and a pop up asking to shut verity down will appear. Click yes then walk to the generators" — official Discord server, 2026-09-07
  • "just get them to max anger and then at a point it will say shut down verity and then you press yes or no... so far all these endings are included with day five" — recorded full run (GamEscaper, Part 3)
  • "You did. You actually did." / "Now you can see what I do without..." — Verity after the generators are turned off

Notes and caveats

  • Win rate and totals from the official badges API (2026-09-12).
  • Badge registered 2026-08-28 — one day after UPDATE 1 announced a 'New ending!', making it the likely match for that bullet (inferred, not confirmed officially).
  • Mobile players report the shutdown sequence freezing; PC players in the same thread had no issue (unverified player reports).

Trigger methods describe community-tested direction from recorded runs — the developer has not published ending requirements. Budget for retries: the free tier caps you at 40 messages, and routes need conversation room. The Infinity Messages pass exists for this.
