Messages, Limits & Refills in Verity Companion
Every conversation in Verity Companion is metered. The free tier gives you a fixed batch of messages, and when they run out you stop being able to talk to Verity — which matters most exactly when you are three lines from an ending. This guide covers what the limit is, how it refills, and how to stop wasting the budget.
The free message cap
UPDATE 1 raised the free cap to 40 messages, and that is still the number the official description shows. Each message you send Verity is one of those 40; the AI’s replies are generated live from a paid model, so the meter is counting real cost, not game currency.
What that means in practice:
- Endings are budget problems. Every route needs Verity’s hidden craziness pushed to the max on Day 5, and pushing costs messages. The all endings walkthrough lists the order that wastes the fewest.
- A failed attempt is spent. There is no undo — the messages you used to test a theory are gone even if the ending never triggered.
- Spam is the most expensive tactic. Repeated random input is a known way to raise craziness, but it burns messages fastest.
Why there is a limit at all
The developer states it plainly in the game description: “Keeping Verity awake isn’t free… AI costs money to run, so unlimited free messages may not always be possible.”
The community version of the same answer shows up in the official Discord server: “Verity uses an AI that needs the game’s owner to pay for every message” — and a server moderator replied “Yup” to that explanation. So the cap is a cost model, not a difficulty setting. No amount of play skill removes it.
How refills work
This is the part players ask about most, so here is exactly what we could and could not verify from public sources:
- A refill timer exists. Players discuss it directly — one asked “can we decrease time of messages refill”, which only makes sense if messages come back on a schedule.
- Offline refill was not available in late August. A player asked “Can developer make offline refill?” and was directed to the suggestions channel — the request implies it was not a feature at that time.
- Waiting is the only free reset. There is no in-game item or action that tops up the counter beyond time.
- Unverified: whether refills accrue while you are offline now, and how long the timer actually is. Players disagree, and the developer has never published the interval. We tested nothing here ourselves — treat any specific number you see quoted as unconfirmed.
If you are mid-route and out of messages, the practical answer is: the run is over for that session. Plan the next one around the budget instead.
The pass, and when it pays off
∞ MESSAGES (749 R$, the most expensive pass in the game) removes the cap entirely. The official listing carries no description, but the function is self-evident from the name and the developer’s own note about message costs.
The honest maths:
- If you only want one or two endings, the free tier is enough — 40 messages covers the common routes if you do not spam.
- If you are hunting the rare badges (RETURN TO SENDER, BEST FRIENDS FOREVER, THAT’S EVERYTHING), you are buying retries. Recorded ending runs run out mid-attempt repeatedly, and the runners say so out loud: “I really need infinite messages. Like, that’s the only game pass I need.”
- The other two passes are convenience, not capacity: Notebook (49 R$) shows what Verity remembers about you, and Admin Panel (119 R$) gives you session controls. Neither adds messages. Full breakdown on the gamepasses page.
What does not work
- There are no codes. Verity Companion has never released one and has no redemption system — see the codes page for the full explanation. Any “free messages code” you find is fake.
- There is no message glitch worth using. Nothing publicly documented tops up the counter.
- Buying the pass does not buy endings. Passes remove friction; the routes still have to be walked.
Where to spend the budget
Ordered by value, based on what recorded runs actually do:
- Learn the AI first. Spend a session just talking — how Verity reacts to your tone is the mechanic behind every route. See Talking to Verity.
- Then push toward one ending, deliberately. Deciding first which ending you want avoids the classic waste of maxing craziness and having nothing left to trigger.
- Keep a reserve. The finale sequence itself costs messages — the Crazy Meter guide explains why the last few pushes are the ones that matter.
What we still do not know
- The exact refill interval, and whether it ticks offline.
- Whether the free cap will rise again in a future update (it went up once, in UPDATE 1).
- Whether any unreleased content will change how messages are earned.
We update this page when any of those change — the updates timeline tracks what is confirmed.
